Scatec signs 25-year PPA with EETC for a 900 MW onshore wind project in Egypt

The Norwegian renewables company Scatec has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) for a 900 MW onshore wind project located in Ras Shukeir, in Egypt’s Red Sea Governorate. The PPA was signed through Scatec’s dedicated project company, Shadwan Wind Power SAE. The signing of the US$-denominated PPA will be followed by wind measurements on the site, to be finalised in the first half of 2026, before the project is further advanced towards financial close and construction.

In Egypt, Scatec is also currently developing the 1 GW Obelisk solar project in Nagaa Hammadi, featuring a 100 MW/200 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). In 2024, Egypt's New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) had also signed a deal with Scatec for the development of a 5 GW of wind capacity in the governorate of Sohag, central Egypt.

As of end-2024, wind represented about 3% of Egypt’s installed capacity with nearly 1.9 GW and less than 3% of its power mix.
